Why should I choose colored sand? 

Developmental experts agree that playing with sand helps children in many ways. Fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination are improved and two-handed play is encouraged. Tactile experiences with sand help children become more aware of their senses. Sand is an excellent open-ended activity- there is no right or wrong way to play with sand! With colored sand, your children will most likely ask to play in sand more often and longer, simply because it's prettier than plain sand! Colored sand enriches the experience of sand play for children by adding visual stimulation to the tactile experience. It encourages creativity and cooperative play. Sand art projects are fascinating to children; projects are different each time.

Sand can be sifted, molded, scooped, and poured. Sand is so fascinating that most toys end up in the sandbox sooner or later! Wooden sandboxes should be checked periodically to make sure there are no protruding nails or splintered wood. If cats roam free in your neighborhood, a sandbox cover is recommended. Our colored sand also works great in indoor sand tables. Many models are available commercially, but in a pinch, a large plastic container makes a fine indoor sandbox. It is especially effective if the container is placed on a low table so the children can stand and play. Be sure to cover the floor around the space with an old tablecloth or shower curtain as spills are inevitable!
